Forest School is… “an inspirational process that offers children… regular opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment.” National definition: by Forest School (England) Network.

Forest School is very much about the whole child so the activities run are designed to enhance a whole range of their skills, based on their developmental age. Sessions are evaluated weekly to ensure that what we do builds on any progress made, matches the interests of the group and enables individualized learning. While there is always a plan if the children come up with an idea on the day or we make an exciting discovery that’s fine, Forest Schools are very flexible, that’s what being child led is all about!

The benefits You may know for yourself that time spent in the woods helps us to feel good. This added to the adventure, freedom and creativity in a Forest School really enables children to shine. The whole child is engaged in the games and activities so the whole child benefits. Forest Schools develop children’s skills and confidence in the following areas:

  • Physical- fine and gross motor skills, balance and proprioception
  • Emotional: empathy, self awareness, motivation, self regulation and social skills
  • Social: working in a group, sharing ideas with others
  • Intellectual: creativity, imagination, problem solving, spatial awareness, logic, making links
  • Communication: listening skills, non verbal creativity, following instructions, speaking in a group
  • Spiritual- a feeling a peace and freedom

The aim of Forest School is to enable children to become independent confident learners, not just for school but for life.

Please get in touch if you would like an enrollment pack or more information. Or to add you child to the waiting list.
